Beijing, July 2 /Xinhua/ — Zhu Fenglian, official spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the PRC, on Thursday criticized the administration of the Democratic Progressive Party /DPP/ of Taiwan for acting as an accomplice to external forces damaging the interests of the Chinese nation.
Zhu Fenglian made this statement at the latest departmental press conference, responding to a question regarding the remarks of the head of the Taiwan administration, Lai Ching-te, about the recent patrols of the China Coast Guard (CCG) in the territorial waters east of the island of Taiwan.
The official representative of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Republic of China stated that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an integral part of China. According to her, China has an exclusive economic zone and continental shelf waters east of the island of Taiwan.
Zhu Fenglian noted that Japan and the Philippines, without China’s participation, initiated the so-called “maritime boundary delimitation negotiations” regarding the waters east of the Chinese island of Taiwan, which is a serious violation of international law and fundamental norms of international relations, infringes upon China’s maritime rights and interests, and such actions are completely illegal and invalid.
Zhu Fenglian stated that patrolling the SCS in the relevant waters for law enforcement purposes constitutes a lawful exercise of jurisdiction and constitutes legitimate measures to protect China’s territorial sovereignty, maritime rights, and interests. She added that these patrols are also a necessary response to the “maritime boundary delimitation negotiations” initiated by Japan and the Philippines bypassing China.
Zhu Fenglan accused the Taiwan DPP administration of turning a blind eye to violations by Japan and the Philippines and to the damage inflicted on the interests of Taiwan’s residents, while using the situation to spread separatist ideas about the so-called “Taiwan independence” and to incite confrontation with mainland China.
“The administration of Taiwan’s DPP has become an accomplice of external forces seeking to undermine the shared interests of the Chinese nation,” Zhu Fenglian stated, emphasizing that such behavior will be condemned by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
