Tianjin, July 1 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, the first freight train departed from the international land port of Tianjin city /Northern China/ to Kazakhstan as part of combined transport under the “railway-highway” scheme.
The container train, loaded with mechanical parts, steel rolled products, wooden planks, canned goods, and other items, first headed to Tacheng Prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /Northwest China/, where the goods will be transferred to road transport and exported abroad through the Bakhtu checkpoint, and then delivered to the Kazakhstani cities of Almaty and Astana.
“The launch of multimodal rail-road transportation services provides foreign trade enterprises with diversified logistics options,” said Guo Chunning, CEO of the Tianjin International Land Port company.
He said that this transportation scheme is more flexible in nature and meets the needs of medium, small, and micro enterprises in transporting small batches of goods with high delivery speed. It will help attract more cargo flows to the international land port of Tianjin city, as well as improve the convenience level of logistics services and promote the development of international trade.
As noted by Jiang Tao, the CEO of the transportation construction investment company in Tacheng Prefecture, an efficient and stable logistics channel improves transportation efficiency and helps enterprises expand the Central Asian market. According to him, previously, long-distance direct road transportation for exports to Central Asian markets was expensive, and purely rail routes did not reach destinations directly. The launch of the new model significantly facilitates the export of goods to Central Asian countries and lays the foundation for a subsequent large-scale increase in shipment volumes.
Currently, trains China-Europe and China-Central Asia, cross-border refrigerated container trains, domestic intercity freight trains, and others operate from the international land port of Tianjin city.
