A solemn ceremony of awarding certificates of appreciation to foreign graduates who have achieved outstanding results in academic, scientific, social, and international activities was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The event took place in the new multifunctional auditorium “Space of Nations”.
This year, 45 foreign graduates received letters of gratitude: 24 bachelors, 20 masters, and 1 postgraduate student. Almost half of them began their journey at Polytechnic from the preparatory faculty. They represented more than 30 countries around the world — from China and Vietnam to countries in Africa and Latin America.
Polytech is rightfully considered one of Russia’s leading universities in terms of internationalization. More than 35 thousand students study at the university, of which over 8 thousand are foreign citizens.
The history of international education at Polytech spans over 75 years: the first foreign students arrived here in 1947, and in 1965 a preparatory faculty was opened, where 200 students from Cuba, Arab countries, and Africa came to study. Over this time, the university has trained thousands of specialists from various corners of the world. In 2025 alone, 976 foreign nationals graduated from Polytech.
Foreign students of Polytech consistently demonstrate their high level not only in studies but also in science, creativity, and social life. Thus, in December 2025, three university studentsreceived awards from the St. Petersburg governmentfor outstanding scientific achievements in the field of biotechnology, active public engagement, as well as for creative successes.
High results are also achieved by foreign graduate students of Polytech. In the BigPhD competition, held for talented young researchers, 15 people became laureates, and two of them were awarded the title of “Absolute Winner.”
Joint educational programs are also successfully developing. The first graduates of the double degree from SPbPU and Lanzhou University of Economics and Finance (China) have already received their diplomas.
Addressing the graduates, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Dmitry Arseniev said: Friends, I know that many of you are receiving a bachelor’s degree. We hope this is not our last meeting: you will continue your studies at the Polytechnic University, and you will have a wonderful chance to participate in graduation evenings several more times. I would also like to address those students who are already leaving for their homeland. Remember your alma mater, remember that you have many friends here. Remember that this is your second family, and our doors are always open. Come visit, bring your friends, and in the future, bring your children. We will always be waiting for you.
Warm words of encouragement were also spoken by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Mali in St. Petersburg, a 1985 graduate of the Polytechnic, Issa Togo: I can say one thing: you are lucky. Studying at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is a great honor, and you forever become part of a big family. The name of the Polytechnic is known far beyond the borders of Russia. Wherever you end up — whether you return to your homeland or stay here — remember: the Polytechnic family helps to achieve very much. A diploma from the Polytechnic is a diploma of the highest standard. I say this with full responsibility because I have worked with colleagues from different countries and I know that the Polytechnic gave me the knowledge and the life opportunity I am proud of. And each of you can also become truly great, just like the Polytechnic itself.
Also, a greeting was delivered by Nikita Lukashevich, Deputy Director of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics, and Trade, who noted that studying at Polytech is the result of two conscious choices: The first — to receive education in great Russia, which means you are purposeful and motivated. The second — to choose precisely Polytech, the country’s leading university. I am grateful to you for this choice and wish you continued success. I hope you will contribute to the development of relations between our countries. And never forget us.
Carrying the proud title of a graduate of Peter the Great Polytechnic University is not only an honor but also a responsibility. I want to wish you to always remember your alma mater, respect, cherish, preserve our values and traditions, and pass them on to future generations so that you become worthy members of our large polytechnic family, congratulated the graduates deputy director of the Humanitarian Institute, Tatyana Nam.
On behalf of all graduates, gratitude was expressed by a representative of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport, the head of the student community of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ntambwe Alexis Banamwigi: Being far from home is not easy. The evening has ended, but the journey of the graduates is just beginning. Now they have to carry into the world not only the knowledge they have gained but also that unique atmosphere of mutual assistance, friendship, and respect that they found at Polytech. Each of them is an ambassador of Russian education, a living bridge between Russia and their homeland. And though different roads await them, the beginning is the same for all — Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, which will forever remain in their hearts as a symbol of science, strength of spirit, and a true international family.
