Vilnius, June 30 /Xinhua/ — The Lithuanian Parliament on Tuesday approved the leader of the Social Democratic Party /SDP/, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, as Prime Minister.

On June 23, the government headed by Inga Ruginene announced its collective resignation and is currently serving as a temporary administration.

According to Lithuanian law, the candidate for the new prime minister must be proposed by the party holding the largest number of seats in parliament. Currently, this is the Social Democratic Party.

Following the SDP’s recommendation, the country’s president, Gitanas Nausėda, nominated M. Sinkevicius for the post of prime minister on June 25. –0–
