Lima, June 29 /Xinhua/ — In Peru, the candidate from the right-wing party “Popular Force” Keiko Fujimori received more than half of the valid votes in the presidential election. This was evidenced on Monday by the official results after processing 100 percent of the ballots.
According to data published by the National Office of Electoral Processes of Peru /ONPE/, K. Fujimori received 50.135 percent of the votes (9,223,396 votes), while her main rival Roberto Sanchez from the leftist party “Together for Peru” received 49.865 percent — 9,173,755 votes.
K. Fujimori is the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who was in power from 1990 to 2000.
The Chairman of the National Electoral Jury, Roberto Burneo, stated recently that the official announcement of the results is expected on Friday. –0–
