Abidjan, June 30 /Xinhua/ — At least 12 people have died and another five were injured following heavy rains that hit Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire. This was reported by local authorities on Monday.
Heavy rains that began on Sunday caused landslides and floods in several communes of the country’s largest city.
Twelve people, nine of whom were members of one family, were found dead under the rubble of their homes.
Five injured people were taken to hospitals. On Monday, rescue teams continued searching for the injured. By Monday noon, several city blocks remained partially flooded, and the main roads became impassable due to rising water. –0–
