Novosibirsk State University Publications Presented for the First Time at the Major Book Festival “Red Square”

The Publishing and Printing Center of Novosibirsk State University participated for the first time in the XII Book Festival “Red Square,” which took place in Moscow from June 4 to 7, 2026. NSU’s debut at the country’s main book venue was successful: 86% of the brought circulation was sold out in the first days of the festival, and one of the university scientists’ monographs received an award at the all-Russian competition “Best Books of the Year.”

At the festival, the Publishing and Printing Center of NSU presented scientific, educational, and popular science publications by the university’s professors and researchers. Visitors were able to explore books on technical and natural sciences, geology, medicine, as well as humanities disciplines.

—The decision to present NSU books for the first time at the country’s main book platform became a strategic and long-overdue step for the NSU Publishing and Printing Center. This year, all conditions came together for our debut: we formed a serious selection of publications, launched our own online store, and were ready to expand beyond the Siberian region. Participation in the country’s largest book festival became part of a major strategy to popularize scientific knowledge and promote the Siberian scientific school at the federal level., — says the marketing specialist of the Marketing and Communication Policy Department of NSUIrina Mitina.

Preparation for participation in the festival began long before its opening. The organizers faced the task of not only transporting books from Novosibirsk to Moscow but also creating an exhibition that would showcase a wide range of scientific fields developed at the university.

—The collection was assembled with the utmost responsibility. The display was meant to showcase the breadth of the university’s scientific interests: from semiconductor physics and nanotechnology to geology, medicine, and the humanities. Readers could find literature on virtually any subject. They selected publications that would be of interest not only to narrow specialists but also to a broad audience — students, graduate students, researchers from other universities, and simply curious readers., notes Irina Mitina.

According to representatives of the Publishing and Printing Center, books by Novosibirsk scientists attracted great interest among the festival guests. The NSU booth repeatedly became a focal point for visitors who familiarized themselves with the achievements of the Siberian scientific school and left positive feedback on the publications presented. As a result, 86% of the circulation brought to the festival was sold in the first days of the event.

High reader interest coincided with professional recognition of the university’s publishing activities. On June 5, as part of the festival, the results of the 36th season of the All-Russian ASKI competition “Best Books of the Year” were summed up, which in 2026 united more than 120 publishers from 57 regions of the country and over 700 publications.

This is especially important for scientific literature, which is often published in small print runs — each edition finds its recipient. The online store popularizes scientific knowledge. The “Red Square” festival is one of the largest book events in the country. In 2026, it featured 400 publishers from 55 regions of Russia and Belarus, presenting over 150,000 book titles. Over four days, the festival venues were visited by more than 520,000 people.
