Beijing, June 30 /Xinhua/ — China and the European Union confirmed the official establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations on trade and investment by holding the first meeting within its framework.

As noted in the joint statement published on Tuesday following the first meeting, the parties identified four areas of work within the framework of the mechanism: trade and investment balancing, export control, intellectual property rights, and WTO reform.

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency Maroš Šefčovič co-chaired the first meeting held on Monday in Brussels.

The parties held comprehensive, in-depth, and constructive discussions on key trade and economic issues, according to the joint statement.

The parties also agreed to establish a joint monitoring mechanism. -0-
