Saint Petersburg, June 29 /Xinhua/ — China has been actively working for many years to strengthen the foundations of regional security and economic development within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This was stated recently in an interview with Xinhua by Vladimir Nezhdanov, an expert at the Institute of Contemporary International Problems of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
V. Nezhdanov emphasized that the SCO is not just a regional organization, but unites several civilizations whose uniqueness is of great importance for their cooperation. He also believes that a significant role is played by the consensus among SCO member countries regarding global governance, the paramount importance of the UN and other international organizations on the world stage, the further development and possible reform of which “must go hand in hand with the principles of more democratic international relations, greater representation of Global South countries and the global majority.”
According to the expert, the SCO currently plays an important role in implementing the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind. “In this regard, we clearly see that China acts not just as a major developing country, but as a country ready to take on leadership responsibilities and propose initiatives, as well as being prepared to monitor the implementation of these initiatives in the future,” he stated.
As V. Nezhdanov noted, significant changes are happening in the world today, the likes of which the current generation has not seen. He is convinced that in the context of these changes, all countries must be ready for dialogue and seek areas of mutually beneficial cooperation that will enable achieving higher results at the new stage of human development. –0–
