Chengdu, June 29 /Xinhua/ — As of 2:00 PM on Monday, 15 people suffered minor injuries as a result of a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that occurred early that morning in Gaoxian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province in southwest China, according to the city earthquake relief headquarters.
One of the injured received necessary medical assistance at the hospital, while the other 14 were discharged. Another 211 people were evacuated to safe locations. 1,819 rooms in 933 households sustained minor damage, and 40 rooms in 18 households suffered severe damage.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake occurred on June 29 at 00:12 Beijing time. The epicenter was recorded at coordinates 28.50 degrees north latitude and 104.69 degrees east longitude, with the hypocenter at a depth of 6 km.
To eliminate the consequences of the earthquake and conduct search and rescue operations, 31 rescue teams consisting of 340 people and 62 vehicles were mobilized.
Local authorities carried out the evacuation of people from 296 registered geological hazard points and 342 high-risk zones. A total of 1,300 units of essential items were urgently allocated.
Traffic on the roads in the affected area has resumed. Electricity supply and communication networks are operating normally.
To prevent secondary disasters, local authorities have joined forces to conduct surveys to identify geological hazards.
