China’s cultural industry revenues exceeded 20 trillion yuan in 2025

Beijing, June 29 /Xinhua/ — By the end of 2025, the total operating revenues of Chinese enterprises engaged in the cultural industry and related sectors exceeded 20 trillion yuan — nearly 20.83 trillion yuan (approximately 3.06 trillion US dollars), which is 8.8 percent higher than the previous year. This is according to data released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

According to statistical data, last year there was an increase in operating income across all nine sectors of the cultural industry. In particular, four of these sectors recorded double-digit growth in this indicator.

Revenues in service sectors such as creative design, content creation and production, news information services, as well as revenues in cultural, entertainment, and leisure services increased by 13.2%, 12.4%, 12.3%, and 10.7%, respectively.

The profitability of the cultural industry steadily increased: in 2025, the total profit reached 1.9 trillion yuan, which is 7.3 percent more than in 2024.

New business models continued to play a leading role. Revenue in the 16 subsectors where the characteristics of new business models in cultural activities are most prominently manifested reached 7.67 trillion yuan last year, increasing by 15.1 percent year-on-year. The growth rate of this indicator was 6.3 percentage points higher than that of the entire cultural industry.

In addition, investments by cultural enterprises in R&D grew rapidly. According to official data, in 2025 large cultural enterprises invested 182 billion yuan in R&D, which is 12.1 percent more than in 2024. -0-
