Beijing, June 29 /Xinhua/ — The actions carried out by the relevant Chinese authorities in the waters east of the Chinese island of Taiwan are completely rational, legal, and above reproach, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun at the regular departmental press conference on Monday.
Gao Jiakun noted that China has an exclusive economic zone and a continental shelf in the waters east of the island of Taiwan.
According to the Chinese diplomat, Japan and the Philippines have bypassed China and begun so-called “maritime boundary delimitation negotiations,” and their actions constitute a serious violation of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as the fundamental norms of international relations. The actions of Japan and the Philippines also represent a serious encroachment on China’s maritime rights and interests, and China will not allow this. -0-
