Beijing, June 29 /Xinhua/ — After an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred in Gaoxian County, administratively subordinate to the city of Yibin in Sichuan Province /Southwest China/, the Office of the State Council Leading Group for Earthquake Relief and the Ministry of Emergency Management of China sent a working group to the disaster-stricken area to oversee disaster relief and recovery efforts.
A Level 4 emergency response mode was activated due to the earthquake.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake occurred on June 29 at 00:12 Beijing time. The epicenter was recorded at coordinates 28.50 degrees north latitude and 104.69 degrees east longitude, with the hypocenter located at a depth of 6 km.
As of 3:30 on Monday, 13 people have sustained minor injuries as a result of the earthquake, local authorities reported. -0-
