UN, June 27 /Xinhua/ — UN Secretary-General António Guterres hopes for the return of the Strait of Hormuz to its status quo. This was stated on Friday by his press secretary Stéphane Dujarric.

Answering at the daily briefing a question about whether A. Guterres hopes for the return of the Hormuz Strait to the state before the American-Israeli aggression against Iran, S. Dujarric said: “I believe that we must approach this decisively. The Hormuz Strait before the start of this conflict functioned normally, didn’t it? So, we know that this is possible, and we must return to this.”

S. Dujarric noted that the UN welcomes the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the USA and Iran, concerning the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of all parties fulfilling their obligations.

“We are interested in the sustainable resumption of movement through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the principle of freedom of navigation,” declared S. Dujarriq. According to him, it is necessary that all involved parties remember the common good — regional and global stability.”
