Urumqi, June 27 /Xinhua/ — On Friday, the first meeting of the Mechanism for Dialogue of Heads of State Scientific Research Institutions of China and Central Asian countries (CA) was held in Urumqi, the administrative center of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in northwest China.

Leaders of research institutions, academicians, experts and scientists from China and five Central Asian countries gathered together to conduct an intensive exchange of opinions on deepening scientific and technical cooperation and promoting sustainable regional development. Following the meeting, the parties reached a number of agreements and outcomes in the field of joint work.

This meeting is one of the important events within the framework of the 9th EXPO “China-Eurasia”, which will be held from June 25 to 29 in Urumqi.

A meeting dedicated to the topics “Open Science” and “Deepening Scientific Research Cooperation” is aimed at forming a sustainable platform for regular and institutionalized scientific and technical interaction and knowledge exchange between state scientific research institutions of China and countries of Central Asia.

Cooperation between China and the countries of Central Asia in the field of science and technology has a strong foundation and broad prospects, stated He Hunping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), adding that the CAS is ready to jointly, together with scientific research institutions of Central Asian countries, relying on this important platform, namely the mechanism of dialogue, deepen joint research and coordinated efforts in areas of innovation such as ecological safety of arid regions, biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of water resources, and development of ecologically clean agriculture, in order toTo make a scientific contribution to building a closer community of shared destiny between China and the Central Asian countries.
