At Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, the “Second All-Russian Festival of Student Families” took place. The event was attended by a young student family — a fourth-year student of the Physics-Mechanical Institute of the Saint Petersburg State University of Peter the Great, Irina Zadorozhnaya, and her husband — a third-year cadet of the State University of Maritime and River Fleet named after Admiral S. O. Makarov, senior ensign of the third-year group, Daniil Zadorozhny.
A couple met at the New Year’s ball in GUM. Both came without partners, and the organizers put them together. After the ball, the two continued communicating and soon began dating. They got married in November 2025.
Irina explained how to combine family life with studying and why you shouldn’t be afraid to get married while being a student: During the day we study and work, and in the evenings we arrange dates at home. Marriage does not affect studying at all, on the contrary — it promotes self-development. You grow up together, develop, become specialists. You dream about the future and work on it together. You travel together. Your other half will always support you and help you, as they pledged: “in sorrow and in joy.”
At the event opening, 30 couples showed their postcards embodying the phrase “Russia — a friendly country.” Each couple demonstrated the family traditions of their region. Then, the participants attended a master class on the legal literacy of young families: main guarantees, support measures, and responsibility.
Then the couples were distributed among different master classes. The Zadorozhny family chose “Plate Painting Workshop,” “Bubbling Bio: Family Relaxation!”, and “Family Pattern of Russia.”
After that, the participants were given a bus tour around the MSU campus with a walk through the Botanical Garden, and in the assembly hall, master classes in ballroom dancing, acting, and artistic word were held.
At the closing of the festival, there was an awarding of the finalists and a small concert with artistic numbers, after which everyone went on an excursion along the Moscow River.
The festival was very active, well thought out, and well organized. All issues were resolved very quickly. There was no time to be bored; everywhere we went, there was something interesting waiting for us,” Irina shared her impressions.
The Vice-Rector for Information, Youth Policy, and Security of SPbPU Maxim Pasholikov noted: Our university has always strived to create conditions to support student families. That is why we treat with great care the events held at the federal level. We understand how important it is for young families to feel support, to have the opportunity to discuss with each other the difficulties faced by a young student family and, in general, to receive confirmation that they are on the right path and to be an example for others.
