“RN-Yuganskneftegaz”, a key production asset of NK “Rosneft”, released 200 thousand Siberian sturgeon fry into the Irtysh water area. This species is listed in the Red Book. The only way to remove it from the endangered list is artificial reproduction.

By order of “RN-Yuganskneftegaz,” the fish farm in Yugra incubates black caviar and, within one and a half months, raises young fish. When releasing the fry, they are counted and weighed, each must weigh at least three grams. During the stocking process, scientists, specialists in fish farming, and environmental supervision participate together with the oil workers.

The site for releasing the juvenile fish into the river was chosen near the village of Bobrovskiy in the Khanty-Mansiysk district. Consideration was given to convenient access to the river, weak current, water quality, and temperature. Specialists note that the survival rate of juveniles in the natural environment exceeds 80%. Previously, it took about ten years for the sturgeon to reach the spawning stage. Recently, the climate is changing, the water is warming up, and the fish reproduce at an earlier age.

The first release of young sturgeon this year is just the beginning of a large environmental program by RN-Yuganskneftegaz to replenish water bioresources. In the summer season, releases of juveniles of particularly valuable species — sterlet, nelma, muksun — are planned into the rivers of the Ob-Irtysh basin. RN-Yuganskneftegaz consistently implements a comprehensive environmental protection program. Over the past three years, more than 18.8 million juveniles of valuable fish species have been released into the Yugra rivers.
