Saint Petersburg, June 24 /TASS/ — A new space telescope “Spektr-UF” of Russian development is planned to be launched into space on October 24, 2031. This was announced on Wednesday by the head of the department of the S. A. Lavochkin Scientific and Production Association Alexander Shaganov at the “Ultraviolet Universe-2026” conference.

According to A. Shalhanov, the space observatory “Spektr-UF” will be launched into orbit from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on the Russian carrier rocket “Angara-A5M.” From the moment of the “Spektr-UF” launch, it will serve as the successor to the space telescope “Hubble” and will be the only space telescope in the world collecting data in the ultraviolet range at least until 2041.

“Spektr-UF” is designed for conducting fundamental astrophysical research in the ultraviolet and visible ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum.

It is expected that the Russian telescope will receive completely new information thanks to modern equipment and its location in orbit at an altitude of about 35 thousand km above the Earth’s surface, which is almost 70 times higher than the orbit altitude of the “Hubble” telescope.
