Washington, June 24 /Xinhua/ — The US Senate on Tuesday passed a resolution on war powers regarding Iran, limiting President Donald Trump’s right to initiate further military operations against this country without Congress’s approval.
A similar document received the approval of both chambers of Congress for the first time since the beginning of the conflict in February, which indicates a growing opposition to the military aid to the head of the White House.
The resolution on war powers regarding Iran was adopted by the Senate with 50 votes against 48, with four Republicans joining the majority of Democratic senators in supporting the document. One Democrat voted against it.
According to the brief summary published on the Congress website, the resolution “prescribes that the president not use the U.S. armed forces for military actions on the territory of Iran or against it in the absence of a declaration of war or obtaining permission to use military force for these purposes.”
