Tbilisi, June 23 /Sin Hua/ — Approximately over the past year, more illegal migrants have been deported from Georgia than in the previous ten years combined. This was reported to journalists on Tuesday by the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to him, this result was the consequence of institutional transformations and a political course implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.
I. Kobalidze reports that currently about 20 thousand illegal migrants are staying on the territory of Georgia. According to him, the authorities intend to continue active work in the direction of their deportation.
The Georgian Prime Minister also noted that important steps have been taken to improve the effectiveness of migration control, including the institutional strengthening of the specialized unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
