Beijing, June 23 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, China introduced a package of new measures aimed at expanding automobile consumption, paying special attention to the reform of automobile circulation and measures to stimulate the development of the automobile aftermarket service market.
According to the circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China jointly with another group of departments, as pilot zones for carrying out reforms in the field of automobile circulation, 40 cities across the country were designated, with priorities established for each of them taking into account local conditions.
It is said in the circular that for these cities, including Tianjin, Shenyang, and Yangzhou, such “bottlenecks” should be eliminated, such as unjustified restrictions on vehicle traffic and consumption, measures on reform and innovation should be improved, and new scenarios for consumption, forms, and models of business operation should be developed.
In addition, in another circular jointly issued by nine departments, a series of measures were presented to stimulate the development of the after-sales service market for automobiles, covering areas such as the orderly regulation of vehicle modifications, support for the trailer-camping sector, new business models in the classical automobile sector, as well as the promotion of motorsports.
The circular notes that the country will facilitate vehicle modifications through differentiated management by category, and will also support the trailer-camping sector by optimizing road access policies and simplifying the permit procedures for land use for trailer-campings.
Official data showed that car sales in China for the first 5 months of 2026 amounted to 12.207 million units, with sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) reaching 5.802 million units, which is 3.5% more compared to the same period last year.
The after-sales service market for automobiles in China has enormous potential yet to be unveiled, said Wan Du, deputy chairman of the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), adding that new measures will help further optimize the entire vehicle circulation chain on a systemic basis, which will give a new impetus to the growth of automobile consumption.
