Tehran, June 21 /Xin Hua/ — Iran will not open the Strait of Hormuz until hostilities in Lebanon cease. This was reported on Sunday by the Iranian semi-official news agency Tasnim, citing a source close to the delegation of Iranian negotiators.
A source warned that if the “crimes” of Israel in Lebanon continue, the territorial integrity of Lebanon will not be guaranteed, and Iran will not conduct any negotiations on other issues.
As the source clarified, Iran’s conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz also include a partial unblocking of the country’s frozen assets as the first step in implementing the recently signed memorandum of understanding with the USA and the relevant agreement with Qatar, as well as the fulfillment of the provisions of the Iran-US memorandum, which provides for the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, lifting the American naval blockade on Iran, and issuance by the United States of permits to export oil, petrochemical products, and petroleum products from Iran.
An Iranian source emphasized that lifting the naval blockade alone is not enough to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, a delegation of Iranian negotiators, including the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Bagheri Kani, arrived in Switzerland to hold talks with the U.S. delegation. –0–
