Beijing, June 20 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese film “Dear,” which became a real hit thanks to word-of-mouth radio, has collected more than 1.8 billion yuan (about 264 million USD) at the box office as of Friday, according to data from the Chinese ticket sales platform “Maoyan”.
The low-budget film released on April 30 in the Chaoshan dialect, featuring an almost unknown cast, became one of the highest-grossing Chinese films of this year, gaining popularity thanks to rave reviews from audiences.
The rating of this film on the largest Chinese film critics platform Douban recently rose to 9.3 out of 10.
