Beijing, June 20 /Xin Hua/ — The Ministry of Commerce of the PRC announced on Friday that starting Saturday, additional tariffs of 55 percent will be imposed on beef imported from Australia, in addition to existing tariff rates.
China has introduced protective measures regarding beef imports starting January 1, 2026. These measures are implemented in the form of quotas for individual countries, and for imports exceeding the established quotas, additional duties are charged.
According to these measures, starting from the third day after the export volume from a particular country reaches the established annual quota, an additional tariff of 55 percent will be imposed on beef imports from that country.
According to the ministry’s data, on June 18, imports of Australian beef within protective measures reached 100 percent of the established quota.
The Ministry of Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Main Customs Directorate send notifications when the country’s beef export quota reaches 50 percent and 80 percent, and publish a notification about the upcoming introduction of additional tariffs when exports reach 100 percent of the established quota. -0-
