On June 20, the admission campaign for 2026 starts at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
The responsible secretary of the admissions committee of SPbGASU spoke about what opportunities await applicants, which fields are most in demand today, and why it is important not to postpone the submission of documents to the last days.Ilya Gladushevsky.
– The admission campaign for 2026 is starting at SPbGASU. What tasks does the admissions committee face this year?
– Our main task is to conduct the election campaign honestly, openly, and in full compliance with the law.
It is important for us that every applicant has equal opportunities when applying, regardless of whether they live in Saint Petersburg or any other region of Russia. Today, many young people submit documents remotely, so we try to make the entire process as clear and transparent as possible.
Moreover, we understand that admission to the university is an important stage not only for the applicant but also for their family. Therefore, we strive to respond promptly to questions and help clarify all the nuances of the admission campaign.
– What changes in the rules for admission or the procedure for submitting documents are important for applicants to know?
– The first thing I recommend everyone who is applying to do is – carefully familiarize yourself withadmission rules, posted on the official university website.
In recent years, more and more admissions processes have been converted to digital format, and today the most important tool for admission is the “Admission to Higher Education” service on the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services (Gosuslugi). A confirmed account record on the Gosuslugi portal allows you to quickly submit documents, track your status in the competitive list, and manage your consent for enrollment.
– What fields of training are most in demand among applicants to SPBGASU?
– If we look at the statistics of recent years, there has been a consistently high interest among applicants in fields related to construction, architecture, transport infrastructure, and digital technologies in construction.
This is quite explainable. Today, large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented in the country, a construction complex is being developed, the transport network is being modernized, active development and restoration of territories are underway. All this requires qualified engineering personnel, so interest in engineering education remains steadily high.
This year, for example, we opened a new engineering program at the Faculty of Construction – “Restoration of Buildings and Structures,” where specialists will be trained to master, among other things, digital methods for creating multilayer models of cultural heritage objects, which require carrying out reconstruction and restoration work.
One more new direction is applied geodesy. We train specialists who work with GNSS systems, laser scanning, photogrammetry, and unmanned technologies. This is no longer classical geodesy, but a complex digital engineering discipline.
– What are the control figures for admission and the number of budget seats that the university can count on this year?
– The control figures for admissions are approved annually by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and published on the official university website.
In 2026, 1173 budget-funded places are allocated for applicants to bachelor’s and specialist programs at SPbGASU. For master’s applicants, 592 budget-funded places are provided, and for postgraduate studies (aspirantura) – 37 budget-funded places.
This is a serious volume of budget enrollment, which allows the university to prepare specialists for the construction, architectural, road-transport, engineering transport, and scientific fields. Training specialists in the specified directions remains one of the most important tasks of the higher education system.
– What do applicants most often pay attention to when choosing a university?
– Today, the guys approach the choice of university very consciously. They are interested in the quality of education, employment prospects, the availability of budget places, and the opportunity to gain practical experience even during their studies. In this sense, our university is advantageously different from many others because interaction with industrial partners – potential employers – begins from the first year; each department has its own specialized partners who help students develop relevant professional skills. They regularly hold lectures, master classes, organize tours of the production facilities, and provide opportunities for internships and practical training. Therefore, starting from the second year, many students already decide on the choice of their future employer and gradually begin cooperating with them.
No less important for applicants are the presence of dormitories, the modern infrastructure of the university, and the feedback from employers about the graduate.
SPBGASU offers non-resident students a modern dormitory in the city center, which is located next to the main academic buildings, as well as accommodation in an interuniversity student campus. So, I want to reassure those parents who are afraid to send their children to study in another region: we always take care of our students, providing them with a comfortable and safe place to live and study.
– What mistakes do applicants most often make when submitting documents?
– The most common mistake year after year remains the same – inattentive attitude towards deadlines and admission rules.
Sometimes applicants postpone important actions until the last days, make mistakes when filling out applications, or do not pay enough attention to the competitive situation.
Therefore, my main advice is to study the admission rules in advance, regularly check the information on the university website, and not leave everything to the last moment.
– Why should an applicant choose specifically SPbGASU among other technical universities of Petersburg?
– SPBGASU is one of the leading engineering and construction universities in the country with a serious history and strong professional traditions. We build a system in which education, science, and industry are connected into a single chain. The key task is not just to impart knowledge, but to develop the ability to work with real engineering tasks in a digital environment.
We train specialists for industries that directly influence the development of cities, transport and engineering infrastructure, and the construction complex of Russia. At the same time, great attention is paid not only to theoretical training but also to practice.
As practice shows, graduates of SPbGASU are in demand both in Saint Petersburg and far beyond its borders. Engineering specialties remain among the most sought-after in the labor market today.
In 2027, SPBGASU will celebrate its anniversary, turning 195 years old, which is almost two centuries! And during these two centuries, our graduates and teachers have played a key role in shaping the appearance of Russian cities, particularly St. Petersburg, industrial and infrastructure facilities, such as the metro system, the Baikonur Cosmodrome, and they led the restoration work of the country after the Great Patriotic War.And now our graduates hold high positions in government, head construction, architectural, and industrial state corporations and enterprises, implementing modern high-tech projects aimed at organizing a comfortable, decent, and prosperous life in our country.
– What would you like to wish to the applicants who on June 20 will begin their journey to university admission?
– First of all, I want to wish calmness and confidence in your own strength.
University admission is an important life stage, but it should not be perceived as something frightening. The admissions committee works to help you navigate all stages of the campaign, and our staff are always ready to assist you and answer questions about the admission process.
I wish every applicant success in passing all stages of the admissions campaign, enrolling in the chosen field of study, and finding a profession that will bring pleasure and allow them to fulfill themselves in the future.
