Beijing, June 18 /Xinhua/ — The signing of a memorandum of understanding following the first stage of negotiations between the USA and Iran has positive significance for reducing tensions and strengthening the trend towards a ceasefire. This was stated on Thursday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Qian.
Speaking at a regular briefing for journalists, Lin Qian said that the NPC welcomes the signing of the memorandum and hopes that all interested parties, including the United States and Iran, will abide by the agreements reached and faithfully fulfill their obligations.
“Force is not a solution to the problem. Negotiations on an equal footing are the right choice,” emphasized the Chinese diplomat. He expressed hope that the US and Iran will approach the second stage of negotiations rationally and pragmatically, work in the same direction, and achieve positive results.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China also noted that since the beginning of the conflict, China has been continuously working to cease hostilities and achieve peace, and will continue to play an active and constructive role in ensuring lasting peace and security in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. –0–
