Beijing, June 18 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Natural Resources of the PRC announced on Thursday that it conducted a marine ecological survey in the waters under Chinese jurisdiction to the east of Taiwan Island to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystem of the maritime areas belonging to the country.

According to the ministry, from June 16 to 18, the research vessel “Xianyangun-22” under the jurisdiction of the East China Sea Administration conducted a survey of the waters to the east of the Chinese island of Taiwan.

In the study, data on marine ecological DNA, representatives of birds and cetaceans, the chemical composition of the water, and hydrometeorological conditions were collected.

As noted in the ministry, this laid the foundation for a deeper understanding by China of the state of key habitats in this marine zone and the assessment of the health of the local ecosystem, as well as provided a scientific basis for preserving the marine biodiversity of this water area. –0–
