Beijing, June 18 /Xinhua/ — During the five-day period associated with the Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Festival), the passenger flow on China’s railways will reach about 83 million person-trips, the China State Railway Group Corporation (China Railway) announced on Thursday.
According to expert forecasts, the period of peak passenger flow will last from Thursday to the following Monday, with the peak passenger flow expected on Saturday, when this figure will be approximately 19 million passenger trips.
As of 08:00 Thursday, more than 40 million tickets for the upcoming holiday period had been sold on the 12306 railway ticket booking platform.
To meet the growing demand for travel in the country, a schedule for train movements has been introduced during the peak period. According to the plan, about 13 thousand passenger trains will operate daily during the specified period.
In particular, high-speed trains will operate on the routes Beijing-Shanxi, Beijing-Guangzhou, and Beijing-Harbin, including during nighttime.
The Duanwu Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, falls on a Saturday this year.
