Dushanbe, June 16 /Sina/ — Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon established the International Prize of the President of Tajikistan in the field of water resources. The corresponding decree was published on Monday on the official website of the head of state.
According to the decree, the award was established to encourage and recognize high merits for a significant contribution to the development of international cooperation, scientific research, sustainable policy, as well as to the resolution of global water problems and climate change.
The government of Tajikistan has been tasked with developing and approving within two months the regulations on the International Prize of the President of Tajikistan in the field of water resources, as well as composing the relevant commission.
Tajikistan has put forward a number of international initiatives in the field of water resources and climate change, receiving support from the UN General Assembly. These include – the International Freshwater Year, the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life’, the International Year of Cooperation in the Field of Water Resources, the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development’.
As noted by the press service of the head of state, the institution of the International Prize of the President of Tajikistan in the field of water resources has become a logical continuation of Tajikistan’s international initiatives in the water sector and will contribute to strengthening the country’s position as one of the key participants in resolving global water issues.
