Moscow, June 16 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, Ambassador of China to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui published an article dedicated to the International Day of Dialogue between Civilizations, which is observed annually on June 10.
“So far, just as in 2023 Chairman of the CCP Xi Jinping spoke for the first time with the Initiative of Global Civilization, China actively calls for respect for the diversity of world civilizations, spreads the common values of all mankind, and strengthens international humanitarian exchanges and cooperation,” says the author’s article by Zhang Hanxue in the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda.”
According to him, the Initiative of Global Civilization, along with initiatives on global development, global security, and global governance, not only contributed to the establishment by the UN General Assembly of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, but also helped transform the fundamental ideas embedded in it into a broader international consensus.
“Today the development of human civilization faces serious challenges,” the ambassador notes. “Divisions and confrontations are intensifying, shocks and conflicts occur more often, and the deficit of trust deepens.”
Under these conditions, the question of how to strengthen consensus and overcome disagreements through dialogue between civilizations has become, according to him, one of the main issues of our era and the one facing all humanity.
“The diversity of civilizations is the natural background of global development and an internal source of social progress,” writes the diplomat. “History has repeatedly confirmed that mutual respect and equal exchange between different civilizations are an important force driving the development of humanity forward. Deepening mutual understanding and trust through dialogue, strengthening cohesion, and achieving consensus through exchanges, unwaveringly reinforcing the humanitarian foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind — this is the historical responsibility placed upon us.”
“Equality and openness are the foundation of the Chinese approach,” says Zhang Hanwei. “It is necessary to adhere to mutual respect and promote the harmonious coexistence of different civilizations. We must adhere to a civilizational approach based on equality, mutual borrowing, dialogue and openness, overcoming narrow views such as the ‘theory of civilizational superiority’ and the ‘theory of civilizational clash’, striving for harmonious coexistence and mutual enrichment of diverse civilizations.”
According to the envoy, China and Russia are an exemplary case of intercivilizational dialogue. “China and Russia are great powers with deep civilizational traditions, and friendly ties between them have a long history. In recent years, under the strategic leadership of the heads of the two states, humanitarian exchanges between China and Russia have been actively developing,” the article notes.
Our countries have conducted a whole series of thematically intersecting years, which has strengthened the popular foundation of interstate friendship, Chen Hanwei recalls. “Continuously deepening humanitarian cooperation between China and Russia clearly proves that different civilizations are capable not only of peaceful coexistence, but also of mutually enriching each other, walking hand in hand,” the ambassador noted.
Recently, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin made a state visit to China, during which the heads of the two states jointly elevated the China-Russia relations to an all-encompassing partnership and strategic interaction into a new era at a new stage of more productive and dynamic development, the diplomat notes. During the visit, the heads of the two states jointly participated in the opening ceremony of the Years of China-Russia Cooperation in the field of education. The Chinese side announced the extension of the visa-free regime for Russian citizens, which will further facilitate the easing of mutual travel, deepen cooperation in the field of tourism, mutual enrichment of civilizations, and strengthen the social foundation of the centuries-old friendship between the two countries.
“China and Russia have become a model of the practical implementation of the Initiative of global civilization and the promotion of inter-civilizational dialogue and mutual enrichment,” reads the article by the Permanent Representative of the PRC to the Russian Federation.
“China is ready, together with all partners in the international community, including Russia, to use the celebration of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations to actively implement the Initiative of Global Civilization, promote a civilization model based on equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and openness, realize the common values of all humanity, and through joint efforts contribute to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind and the creation of a beautiful world founded on long-term peace and overall prosperity,” concluded Zhang Hanwei.
