Beijing, June 16 /Xinhua/ — China adheres to a defensive nuclear strategy, strictly observing the policy of no first use of nuclear weapons, which always remains stable, consistent, and predictable, said on Tuesday the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the PRC, Chen Xi.

He made this statement in response to a media request concerning some claims that China is allegedly increasing its nuclear arsenal.

China always maintains its nuclear potential at a minimal level, necessary to ensure national security, and does not participate in the nuclear arms race with any countries, thus playing a significant role in maintaining global strategic stability, Chen Xi emphasized.

He called on the relevant parties to stop unjustified speculation and propaganda.
