Moscow, April 6 /Xinhua/ — The “Art of Sport” conference, dedicated to the development of international sports cooperation between the “BRICS Plus” countries, took place on Monday at the site of the information and cultural media center “BRICS Plus” at the M.I. Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow.

Conference participants discussed the role of sports in the unification of countries and peoples, new forms of cooperation, and the promotion of sports values through culture and the media.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in her video greeting to participants, guests, and organizers of the conference, noted that BRICS countries can jointly form a substantial humanitarian agenda, free from politicization, which has such a harmful impact on the state of international sports recently.

“Attempts to turn sports into a tool of political pressure have nothing in common with its true nature. Fortunately, this opinion is shared by our partners in most countries of the world. Together we continue to uphold the high ideals of sport,” the Russian diplomat emphasized.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov stated that each of the BRICS countries has achievements in the field of sports that it could share. Moreover, according to him, the BRICS countries possess a rich traditional sports culture and are ready to support each other in promoting national sports.

A Russian deputy reminded that in 2025, in Brazil, the sports ministers of the BRICS countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports, and agreed on the development of a framework program for sports cooperation among the BRICS countries for its implementation.

The CEO of the international TV BRICS network, Zhanna Tolstikova, in her speech drew attention to the role of art and the media in promoting sports values. According to her, literature, music, architecture, cinema, and theater promote the values of sports among the broadest audience.

At the conference venue, there was an exhibition of sports books in the languages of the BRICS countries, as well as a series of documentaries “The Art of Sport,” prepared by the international media network TV BRICS. This unique television project metaphorically reveals sports disciplines through various types of art. For example, wrestling is compared to sculpture, equestrian sport to music, curling to painting, and triathlon to acting skills.
