In Georgia, a record volume of container shipments was recorded in 2025 — Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development

Tbilisi, April 6 /Xin Hua/ — In 2025, Georgia recorded a record volume of container transportation, an increase of 17 percent year on year. This was announced on Monday by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of the country, Tamar Ioselian.

As noted by the Deputy Minister, the volume of general cargo increased by 20% year-on-year, while ferry transportation grew by 31%.

According to her, positive dynamics will begin in 2026 as well. In the first quarter of the current year, the volume of containers handled at the sea port of Georgia amounted to 188,149 standard containers /TEU/, which is 4% more compared to the same period of 2025 /180,177 TEU/.

T. Ioseliani noted that the highest indicators of container handling in the first quarter of this year were recorded in the port of Poti, and an increase in handling volumes is also observed in the port of Batumi. –0–
