Beijing, June 15 /Xinhua/ — Premier of the State Council Li Qiang on Monday called for comprehensive planning and optimization of the spatial arrangement of agricultural, ecological, and urban areas, as well as further improvement of the zoning system based on their primary functions.
The head of the Chinese government made an appropriate statement while chairing the 20th thematic meeting of the State Council of the PRC, which was dedicated to strengthening the implementation of the zoning strategy according to the main functions and promoting coordinated regional development.
Li Qian noted that these efforts should contribute to the formation of a new architecture for the development and expansion of China’s territorial space, characterized by clearly defined main functions, complementary advantages, and high-quality development, which will provide strong support for promoting coordinated regional development and optimizing the distribution of significant productive forces.
Li Qian indicated the necessity to optimize zoning according to main functions, provide more targeted and meticulous spatial management, improve the political and institutional system corresponding to the main function zoning system, so that different regions can achieve differentiated and coordinated development.
Emphasizing that the strategy of coordinated regional development, key regional strategies, and the strategy of a new type of urbanization are significant strategies, forming the basis of the country’s territorial spaces, Li Qian called for promoting the coordinated implementation and integration of the zoning strategy by main functions with other key national strategies.
In addition, the Prime Minister of the State Council also noted the necessity to continue improving the mechanisms for implementing the zoning strategy based on main functions, strengthen coordination between government departments and local authorities, enhance auxiliary systems, reinforce the integration of political measures, and ensure a closer unification of efforts in this work.
