Almaty, June 15 /Xin Hua/ — The World Bank (WB) has invited Kazakhstan to become a priority partner and a participant country in the WB’s global strategy for digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). This was reported on Monday by the press service of the Kazakh government.
The invitation became known following the meeting of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov with the Vice President for Digital Technologies and AI of the World Bank, Kim San Bu, in Astana.
Kim San Bu during the meeting noted the high level of digitalization in the Caspian region. During the discussion, the parties highlighted the following priority projects: development of data processing centers, construction of an underwater fiber optic cable through the Caspian, ensuring connectivity in rural areas, digital government services, artificial intelligence, and initiatives in the technopark sphere. The World Bank is ready to support these projects, Kim San Bu noted.
The VB program on digitization and AI is aimed at attracting investment into the digital economy. Cooperation within this program usually involves such areas as digital connectivity and infrastructure, digital government platforms and identification, data regulation and cybersecurity, digital skills, and the development of the AI ecosystem.
“Kazakhstan has entered the ‘A’ group of the GovTech Maturity Index of the World Bank /GTMI/ and ranks 6th in the world. Currently, Kazakhstan and the World Bank are implementing a number of joint projects aimed at developing human capital in the IT sector and accelerating digitalization to create an inclusive economy,” the press service of the Kazakh government added. –0–
