Yerevan, June 14 /Xin Hua/ — The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia on Sunday summed up the results of the parliamentary elections held in the country on June 7. The ruling party “Civil Contract” took first place, receiving 49.74 percent of the votes.
The Chairman of the CEC of Armenia, Vaagn Ovakimyan, sequentially announced the results of all political forces that participated in the elections. The majority of mandates in the National Assembly (parliament) will be held by the ruling party “Civil Contract,” which received 726 thousand or 49.74 percent of voters’ votes. Thus, this force will be able to form the government alone. In the legislative body, opposition blocs also passed: “Strong Armenia” (340 thousand or 23.27 percent of votes) and “Armenia” (144 thousand or 9.92 percent of votes).
Moreover, the Central Election Commission of Armenia also announced the distribution of mandates in the new parliament. Taking into account the seats allocated for national minorities, the “Civil Contract” party will receive a total of 64 mandates, the “Strong Armenia” bloc — 29, and the “Armenia” bloc — 12.
