Washington, June 14 /Cynthia/ — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the agreement between the United States and Iran is “very close,” calling on all parties to cease hostilities.
“We are very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties must cease hostilities,” wrote the American leader on the social network Truth Social.
“Today’s morning attack on Beirut should not have happened, especially on such a special day when we are so close to a peaceful deal with Iran,” noted D. Trump, calling the attack “very small and insignificant.” According to him, as a result of it “no one was harmed, no one was wounded or killed,” and it “should not disrupt this important process /settlement/”.
“Israel must not carry out new strikes on any part of Lebanon, nor any other party, including Hezbollah, must attack Israel,” added the US president.
On the same day, United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the USA and Iran still intend to sign a memorandum of understanding on Sunday, which will allow the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the American blockade of Iranian ports.
“As far as I know, everything is going according to plan. The question is not whether this will happen or not, but when it will happen,” P. Hegseth said in an interview with CBS News.
As reported by the Iranian semi-official news agency Fars, Iran has not yet made or announced a final decision on the proposed memorandum of understanding with the United States and is still studying this document.
