Beijing, June 14 /Xinhua/ — The volume of railway freight transportation in China demonstrated stable growth in January-May 2026, the national railway operator reported on Sunday.
According to the state corporation “China Railways” /CR/, during this period the total volume of cargo transportation by railway transport in the country amounted to 1.67 billion tons, which is 1.8 percent more compared to the same period last year.
For the reporting period, the average daily number of loaded freight cars amounted to 186.3 thousand units, which is 2.8% more compared to the same period in 2025, according to the data of the JSC RZD.
In January-May, the CJSC corporation transported 824 thousand export commercial vehicles, which is 55.5% more in annual terms. Of this amount, 422 thousand were vehicles powered by new energy sources, which is 110.3% more in annual terms.
International freight transportation also demonstrated stable indicators. According to the corporation’s data, in the first five months in the freight transportation sector China-Europe and China-Central Asia, 15,506 trains were sent, which is 12.6% more than the previous year. In particular, along international freight transportation routes China-Europe, 9,331 trains were sent, which is 21% more in annual terms. -0-
