Moscow, June 13 /Sinha/ — A limit has been introduced in a number of Russian cities on the refueling of foreign airlines’ aircraft due to the fact that foreign carriers have started refueling planes in Russia in volumes exceeding the needs of a specific flight, RIA Novosti reported on Saturday citing recommendations from Rosaviatsia.

According to departmental recommendations, the refueling of foreign aircraft is subject to approval by the fuel supplier. The fuel supply volume must not exceed the amount necessary to complete the flights. These rules apply, in particular, at the airports of Mineralnye Vody, Makhachkala, Nizhny Novgorod, and other air harbors.

As explained by Rosaviatsia, recently foreign airlines have begun to refuel more actively at Russian airports due to the situation on the international market of fuel and lubricants. Another reason named by the agency was the cases when, after landing at an alternate aerodrome, airlines refueled planes in volumes significantly exceeding the needs of the subsequent flight.

The conflict in the Middle East has led to an effective halt of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a key route for deliveries to the global market of oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries. As a result, fuel prices are rising on the world market. The RF government introduced a ban on the export of aviation kerosene from Russia until November 30 at the beginning of June.
