Tbilisi, June 13 /Xinhua/ — The final competition of the Chinese language “Bridge of Chinese Language” among students of Georgia was held on Friday at the Confucius Institute at the Free University of Tbilisi. Fourteen students studying the Chinese language and interested in the culture of China participated in the contest.
The program included three stages: public speeches, a question and answer session, as well as creative performances.
The winners were determined based on the results of all competition stages. The first place was awarded to Luka Kurua from Tbilisi State University. He will represent Georgia in the final of the 25th International “Chinese Bridge” competition in China, where he will perform alongside participants from more than 100 countries and will have the opportunity to undertake an internship at one of the Chinese universities. Students who took second and third places received special prizes, while the other participants received consolation prizes.
Speaking to the participants, the counselor of the PRC embassy in Georgia, Dai Chunyu, noted that since its founding in 2002, the “Chinese Language Bridge” contest has become a kind of “Olympiad” for those studying Chinese worldwide. According to him, it is not only a language skills competition but also a platform that promotes cultural exchange and strengthens friendship among the youth of different countries.
Speaking about the theme of this year’s competition — “One world, one family,” Dai Chunyu explained that it originates from the ancient Chinese treatise “Liji” / “Book of Rites” and reflects the idea of perceiving the world as a single family where people live in harmony and agreement. He emphasized that in the context of the complex and ever-changing international situation, this concept reminds us that residents of different countries are part of one global community and share common aspirations for peace, development, and prosperity.
The organizers of the competition were the PRC Embassy in Georgia and the Confucius Institute at Tbilisi Free University. –0–
