An International Conference on Subregional Cooperation around the Altai Mountains was held in Xinjiang

Urumqi, June 11 /Xin Hua/ — On June 10, in the city of Altay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /PRC, Northwest China/, an International Conference on Subregional Cooperation around Altay Mountains took place. Compared to the 2025 indicators, this year representatives from Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan joined the participants.

The subregion around the Altai Mountains, located in the center of the Eurasian continent, covers an area of about 780 thousand sq. km, and its population is more than 5.2 million people. The theme of this year’s conference is “Jointly strengthening the dynamics of cooperation for common development and prosperity.”

Representatives of the governments and business circles of six countries participated in the conference: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, and Russia.

Erlis Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted in his video message that the participation of the Kyrgyzstan delegation in this conference is of great significance. He emphasized that strong good-neighborly relations, reliable partnership, and mutual respect have been established between the Kyrgyz Republic and all participants of this mechanism of dialogue.

The Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Chen Shaoqian, in his keynote speech, noted that under the conditions of a strengthening trend towards regional economic integration, the enhancement of cooperation in the subregion around the Altai Mountains opens favorable opportunities, conditioned by time, geography, and ethnic unity.

He stated that Xinjian intends to actively cooperate with all parties in expanding economic and trade interactions, strengthening interconnectedness, deepening scientific and technical cooperation, promoting humanitarian exchanges, and maintaining peace in the region, thereby making an active contribution to the formation of a community with a shared future in the region.

At the conference, a list of 100 cooperation results achieved by the parties was also presented, covering such areas as interconnection and logistics, mineral resources and energy, science and technology, healthcare, humanitarian education, trade and investment, as well as agreements on sister city relationships between cities. -0-
