Haikou, June 10 /Xinhua/ — A new container route connecting the port of Yangpu in Hainan Province /South China/ with India was officially opened on Tuesday, becoming the second route to South Asia for this deep-water port, local maritime authorities announced.
The port of Yanpu is the largest cargo port in the Hainan free trade port. This route connects the port of Yanpu with the Vietnamese port of Haiphong, Singapore, and the Indian port of Mundra, uniting the key ports of southern China, the Gulf of Beibu, and South Asia, the Yanpu Port Maritime Administration stated.
It is expected that the new Yanpu-India route will provide a faster channel for exporting products from Hainan Province, including rapeseed oil and chemical products, to the Indian market. Cargo from other Chinese ports may also be transshipped at Yanpu port for subsequent shipment to South Asian countries, the aforementioned agency stated.
The opening of this route strengthens the role of Yanpu port as a hub within the framework of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, a key logistics network connecting the western regions of China with global markets.
To ensure the uninterrupted operation of the new route, the maritime administration of the Yanpu port coordinated the requirements for vessel movement with shipping companies, adjusted the traffic organization plans, and intensified patrols on the waterways and in the port areas.
During the first voyage, maritime authorities used ship monitoring systems, electronic patrolling, and on-site escort services to ensure the safe passage of vessels. Authorities also optimized port inspection procedures to improve the efficiency of customs clearance and reduce logistical costs.
Port Yanpu opened its first route to South Asia on October 24, 2019, linking Port Yanpu with Port Klang in Malaysia and Port Chittagong in Bangladesh. -0-
