Beijing, June 10 /Xinhua/ — The prevailing part of public opinion in Taiwan advocates for peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation, and this cannot be suppressed. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the PRC, Zhang Han, responding to a question from the media regarding a recent survey conducted by the “Taiwan Democracy Foundation.”

According to the survey results, almost 60 percent of respondents support holding peace talks with the mainland part of China on their own initiative.

Moreover, about 70 percent of respondents believe that it is necessary to make efforts to improve relations between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait and achieve peace.

Zhan Han noted that the survey data once again demonstrate the residents’ desire on both sides of the Taiwan Strait for peace and stability, as well as for the improvement and development of relations between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait.

According to her, more and more Taiwanese compatriots, especially the youth, are beginning to realize that the development of Taiwan and the well-being of its residents are closely linked with the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, the reunification of the Motherland, and the great revival of the Chinese nation.
