Tbilisi, June 9 /Sina/ — Georgia confirms its firm commitment to the further development of cooperation with China in all areas and is confident that joint initiatives and projects will continue to bring significant results. This was stated on Tuesday by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Aleksandr Khvtisiashvili at a ceremonial reception on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Georgia announced the enhancement of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The corresponding decision was reflected in the congratulatory messages from the Chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping and the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavlashvili.

“The elevation of the level of Georgian-Chinese relations to an all-encompassing strategic partnership testifies to the depth of our mutual interests and to the common commitment to the promotion of peace, prosperity and sustainable development of our peoples,” noted A. Khvtisiashvili.

He emphasized that Georgia and China have maintained relations for many years based on equality, mutual respect, and common interests, and cooperation between the two countries is constantly expanding both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The Ambassador of the PRC to Georgia, Zhou Qiang, speaking at the reception, noted that China was one of the first countries to recognize Georgia’s independence, and over 34 years of diplomatic relations, the parties have become “good friends, trusting friends to each other, and sincere partners in cooperation.”

According to him, Georgia became the first country in the region to sign a free trade agreement with China, as well as one of the first participants in the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Zhou Qian also recalled that in April of the current year, the parties signed a protocol on updating the free trade agreement, and in 2025, they concluded agreements on cooperation in the fields of aviation, environmental protection, agriculture, and artificial intelligence.
