Moscow, June 9 /Sinchua/ — The United States, unfortunately, shows no interest in returning to the understandings reached in Anchorage. This was stated on Monday by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, at a press conference following talks with the head of the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh.
“If we talk about the negotiations that have taken place recently, then almost a year ago, in August 2025 in Anchorage, Alaska, President V. V. Putin (he also emphasized this) showed flexibility and made an absolutely concrete proposal to President D. Trump. This is how the negotiations ended. I really hope that the experience of previous failures, when the West refused to fulfill the agreements they themselves had supported, will not be repeated in the matter of the agreement on Alaska. But so far, unfortunately, our American partners do not show any interest in this,” he said.
The head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that Moscow is alarmed by the statement of US Secretary of State Mark Rubio about the US’s inability to be a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, since “they support Ukraine.”
“Therefore, it is difficult for me to somehow comment on the prospects of the negotiations right now,” added S. Lavrov.
