Beijing, June 7 /Xinhua/ — General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping will visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on a state visit from June 8 to 9 at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un.
This visit will be the first foreign trip of Xi Jinping this year and the first state visit to the DPRK in the last seven years. It holds immense significance for the development of relations between the PRC and the DPRK and will undoubtedly provide a new impetus to the development of traditional friendship between the two countries, enabling it to withstand the test of time and overcome all difficulties.
The establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries in 1949 opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. In 1961, the parties signed the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the PRC and the DPRK, thereby laying an important political and legal foundation for strong friendly cooperation.
From joint resistance to foreign aggression and the struggle for national independence and liberation to the advancement of the socialist revolution and construction — China and the DPRK have always trusted and supported each other. They are good neighbors, good friends, and good comrades who share joys and sorrows and help each other in difficult times.
In recent years, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un have met repeatedly and maintained close contacts. The chairman of the CPC emphasized that maintaining, strengthening, and developing China-North Korea relations has always been an unchanging policy of the CPC and the Chinese government. Kim Jong Un also expressed willingness to work together with Xi Jinping to develop the traditional friendship between the two countries.
At the beginning of September last year, the leaders of the two countries held a historic meeting in Beijing and reached an important consensus on common, strategic, and directive issues concerning bilateral relations, opening a new chapter in the friendly exchange between the two countries.
Under the strategic leadership of the top leaders of the two countries, relations between the PRC and the ROK are developing on a clear course and possess a powerful impulse.
Bilateral cooperation is also intensifying, facilitated by the expansion of exchanges and interactions at all levels and in various sectors. China is the largest trading partner of the DPRK, and the two countries maintain exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, sports, and other areas.
In addition, the parties have concluded a number of agreements and contracts, including on trade and shipping, air transport, and consular issues. Numerous provinces and cities of the two countries have also established sister city relationships, which contributes to strengthening friendly relations between the peoples.
Over the past year, bilateral exchanges have brought many positive results. For example, the launch of international passenger trains running on the Beijing-Pyongyang and Dandong-Pyongyang routes has further simplified mutual trips.
From the active support of Penyanio’s concept of building a community of a common destiny for humanity and four main global initiatives to close coordination between the two sides within a multilateral structure, such as the UN, and contacts on regional and international issues — the two countries work together to protect common interests and ensure international justice, contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region and beyond. –0–
