Gaza, June 6 /Sina ua/ — The Palestinian movement HAMAS on Saturday announced the start of meetings with Palestinian groups and intermediaries to discuss the implementation of an agreement on a ceasefire and the future of the Gaza Strip in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The HAMAS representative Hazem Qasem told journalists that the meetings are aimed at completing what was agreed upon in the first stage, including stopping the “Israeli aggression and escalation, killings, opening checkpoint terminals, and ensuring access for the National Committee.”
According to him, further discussions will be focused on finding reasonable and acceptable for all parties proposals at the second stage, regardless of whether it will include the introduction of international forces or a technical committee on Gaza in the enclave, or a solution to the issue of Palestinian weapons.
H. Kasem emphasized that HAMAS places the interests of the Palestinian people first and seeks to “deprive Israel of any pretext for renewing the war against the Gaza Strip.”
