Every year on June 5, Russia celebrates Ecologist Day, which coincides with World Environment Day. Nature conservation is an integral part of the corporate culture and social responsibility of NK Rosneft. The company implements large-scale programs in its regions of presence for the replenishment of natural resources, nature conservation, biological diversity, and the study of rare animals and plants. Research is conducted in cooperation with leading scientific institutes of the country.
Rosneft has been holding an annual Congress of Ecologists for more than 11 years. Based on the results of 2025, the Company’s ecologists presented at the Congress a standard corporate program for biodiversity conservation in all regions of presence, the pilot testing of which is already underway in a number of subsidiary enterprises. The program is the result of many years of experience in research and projects on biodiversity conservation.
The corporate program on studying the biodiversity of Arctic ecosystems called “Tamura” also continues, which is being implemented within the framework of federal projects under the Agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. Scientists conduct research on the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer, as well as valuable species of birds and fish in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The program plans 11 expeditions.
The company annually conducts activities to replenish aquatic biological resources. In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, “RN-Purneftegaz” has released over 2 million juveniles of peled, common carp, muksun, and nelma into river basins over the past three years.
“Bashneft” is implementing measures to restore biodiversity in the region of its operations. More than 323 thousand salmon and sturgeon fry were released into water bodies in the territories of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. In the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Tyumen Region, 255 thousand pine and spruce seedlings were planted over an area of more than 73 hectares.
In the Orenburg region, volunteers from “Orenburgneft” and the Buzuluk gas processing plant planted 4,000 pine seedlings in the Buzuluk forest over an area of 10 hectares, previously damaged by a natural fire. As part of cooperation with the Orenburg Reserve, in 2025 volunteers took under their care a foal of the Przewalski’s horse.
At KhMAO-Yugra “RN-Yuganskneftegaz”, a key extraction asset of the Company, within the framework of the energy-saving program, electricity consumption was reduced by 565 million kWh, which directly contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
Samotlorneftegaz applied its own innovative developments that allowed for the complete completion of land reclamation of the “historical heritage.” Thanks to the implementation of winter reclamation and phytomelioration technologies, restoration work was carried out year-round, without being tied to the warm season. The enterprises also conduct systematic work to restore natural ecosystems. With the support of Samotlorneftegaz, over 1.8 million seedlings have been planted in Western Siberia, while RN-Yuganskneftegaz in 2025 laid down new forests covering an area of 830 hectares, planting 3.1 million seedlings.
In Yakutia, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha allocated 2.4 billion rubles for environmental measures in 2025. A closed water use cycle is successfully operating at the Srednebotuobinskoye field, with continuous ecological monitoring of air, water, and soil conditions. In the territories of the Lensky and Vilyuysky districts of Yakutia, the company planted 748 thousand seedlings of coniferous species, restoring over 683 hectares of forest since 2020. Last year, work continued on the agrotechnical care of the planted trees. The oil workers carried out a set of activities aimed at increasing the survival rate of the seedlings and improving growth conditions.
In the Samara region, the Syzran NSPZ is completing the reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities. The indicator of recycling water usage in production has already reached 95.6%. Environmental monitoring here is carried out with the help of modern stationary and mobile posts, conducting hundreds of thousands of studies per year.
Company enterprises make a significant contribution to the conservation of natural resources – they organize campaigns to collect used batteries, plastic, and waste paper for further recycling. Volunteers hold community clean-up days, cleaning natural sites in their regions. Employees of the Samara group of Rosneft enterprises took part in a large-scale environmental campaign within the framework of Volga Day. Volunteers collected 9 tons of garbage from the shoreline of the great Russian river and improved favorite recreation spots for the residents of the region.
Special attention is given to the environmental education of the younger generation. In Tyumen, Kharampurneftegas held a family quest for children, where oil workers explained the principles of waste sorting and environmentally friendly consumption in a playful form. On the shore of Lake Ladoga, volunteers from RN-Northwest organized an interactive game “Mission: Clean Planet” for pupils of social institutions of the Leningrad region. In Nizhnevartovsk, with the support of Samotlorneftegaz, the teenage club EcoCovenant continues its work.
Rosneft implements a comprehensive approach to environmental protection and rational nature management, adhering to the principles and goals of the UN in the field of sustainable development, as well as developing a long-term environmental agenda.
