Non-profit organizations (NPOs) of the capital invite Muscovites to participate in the development of good initiatives in the field of environmental care. Citizens can join programs for collecting and recycling clothes, donate unwanted household appliances and food products, learn to create new items from plastic and bags, and much more.

All these charitable initiatives are aimed at solving several tasks at once: giving a second life to old things, caring about the state of the environment, as well as helping those in need of support. In addition, participation in the environmental NGO initiative will allow the residents of the capital to develop new useful habits.

Breathe new life into old things

Old clothes that are no longer needed can be placed in one of the foundation’s containers.“Second breathing”. Collected items are sent to the sorting center, where employees manually sort and distribute them by categories. Clothing in good condition is sent to the wards of the fund in need in various regions of Russia, while unsuitable items are sent for recycling. Cleaning rags and regenerated fiber are produced from them. The fund also has a workshop where they can show how to repair old clothes or remake them into something new. Today, the fund’s network includes 265 containers and 374 collection points in 69 cities of Russia. You can find them on a special map published on the official websiteorganizations.

Giving things a new life can also help in a fund“Shop of Joys”. It was created to support families affected by fires and other disasters. It accepts clothing, footwear, and household appliances. And you can bring them to the warehouse or leave them in the charity shop“Lavka Radostey”. In addition, the fund’s partners will help install a container called “Dobroshchik” in their office for collecting items. Items are removed as the container fills up. Everything collected is sorted: clothing and textiles in good condition are sent to those in need, and unusable items are sent for environmentally friendly disposal or recycling. For example, old clothes can be sewn into dog bedding at shelters.

To free up an apartment from old furniture, broken appliances, and other bulky items, you can also use the service on mos.ru“Removal of unnecessary items”. All collected items are sent to ecological recycling and disposal points. There they are disassembled into parts and sorted by types of materials. Usable resources are sent to production and new things are made from them, while unusable ones are disposed of in a way safe for the environment.

Moreover, starting from the autumn of 2024, a project will be implemented in the capital“Eco-spots of Moscow”. In many stores, shopping centers, and public spaces of the city, installedspecialized containers. At the points, you can leave clothes and textiles, books, electrical appliances, medicine blister packs, toys, plastic caps, and batteries. The addresses of the collection points are available oninteractive map. Collected items and objects are sorted and sent for processing or disposal.

Save food and donate it to the food bank

Fund“Food Bank ‘Rus’”Advocates for the rational use and proper storage of food products and supports people who have found themselves in difficult life situations. Concerned citizens and producers replenish the food bank with long-term storage goods. Sets are assembled from them, which are then distributed free of charge to those in need through state social service centers, religious and charitable organizations.

You can support the work of the fund by donating money for the purchase of food or by participating in the food marathon and the “Basket of Kindness” campaign. During these campaigns and marathons, products for long-term storage — cereals, canned goods, oil, sugar — are purchased in supermarkets and stores and handed over to the fund’s employees or left in special boxes. And if you have free time and the desire to help personally, you can become a volunteer for the fund.

Master the basics of plastic processing

In the center“Russian Ecology”develop a project“Processing in action”. He received support ongrant competition of the Mayor of Moscow. Students and young people can attend master classes for free, master modern plastic processing technologies, and learn to create new items from it. In one of the sessions, they are taught to re-roll plastic caps using a bicycle shredder and melt the resulting chips into original badges and keychains. Another session is dedicated to the secondary use of bags: using a heat press, durable covers for documents, folders, and card holders are made. The center also regularly holds events to collect recyclable materials at universities, schools, and public spaces in the capital.
