Urumqi, June 4 /Xinhua/ — In the first 5 months of 2026, the number of border crossings through the Khorgos automobile checkpoint in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /PRC, Northwest China/ reached 646,000 person-times, which is 19.8 percent more than in the same period of 2025, setting a new historical maximum. This is evidenced by data from the border service of the Khorgos automobile checkpoint.

Thanks to the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime between China and Kazakhstan, since the beginning of this year, a peak in cross-border tourism has been noted at the Khorgos automobile checkpoint. New historical records have been achieved in such indicators as the number of incoming and outgoing tourists, as well as the number of outbound group trips.

Among the passengers crossing the state border through this checkpoint are Chinese tourists traveling to countries in Central Asia, as well as representatives of foreign trade or cross-border companies regularly moving between China and Kazakhstan.

Border services are taking appropriate measures to reduce border crossing time and increase the efficiency of customs clearance, thereby managing peak passenger flow.

Let us remind you that currently at the KPP Khorgos, 9 routes of Chinese-Kazakh international passenger bus transportation are open. -0-
